Vietnam - All elderly to receive medical care by 2015

Vietnam has set a target to make available medical check-ups and treatment to the entire elderly population by 2015.

According to the National Action Plan for the Vietnamese Elderly for the 2012-20 period approved by the Prime Minister on November 22, 1.5 million elderly people will enjoy monthly social support or be cared for at nursing homes by 2015.

Each city and province will have at least nursing homes for the elderly and build more social housing for those who are lonely and homeless.

Over 5,000 clubs will be set up to provide care and promote the role of the elderly by 2020. The scheme is funded by the State budget and donations from domestic and foreign individuals and organisations.

The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare will work closely with local ministries and departments to implement the National Action Plan.
